Lights Out Swimming At Pete Ribbins Meet
It was definitely a case of "lights out" during the Pete Ribbins Memorial Meet but not in the traditional sense.
The opening events progressed without a hitch but during the anticipated 1500m freesyle a fuse blew and the closing stages of the race were completed without light. However, a geat race ensued; the pre race anticipation not disappointing the crowd.
Lauren Hew took out the race over the opening 100m, Ashley Theaker pacing her way over the opening stages while on the other side of the pool katie Klein and Catriona Macrae eyeballed each other. As the race unfolded Ashley Theaker increased the pressure to take the lead; Katie Klein coming through stongly.
A superbly contested final 50m saw Ashley Theaker and Katie Klein battle their way to the pads (the outcome still unknown..no electronic timing!!) with Catriona Macrae finishing 3rd and Lauren Hew 4th.
Great racing ....just what we need!
