Swimmers Strike CARIFTA Gold On Opening Day

The opening day of the CARIFTA Championships in Jamaica saw Cayman swimmers reccord a host of huge PB's, set CIASA Records, make finals and strike GOLD!

The morning session of Prelims saw almost every swimmers record substantial lifetime best performances...a huge achievement. In amongst, two swimmers went inside the exisitng CIASA Record for the 13.14yrs 50m backstroke; Catriona Macrae with 33.64 and Lauren Hew with 33.26.

The finals sessions gave Cayman Swimmng a fairytale opener with Geoffrey Butler swimming his way to GOLD in the 1500m freestyle in a superb lifetime best of 16:18.42; this time is inside the qualifying time to be considered for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Kavanagh Lambert followed Geoff's example with a blistering 200m breaststroke in the 11/12yrs girls section; her 2:52.81 swim destroying the field and seeing her collect GOLD.

Lauren Hew powered her way to another new CIASA in the final of the 13/14yrs 50m Backstroke; her time of 32.98 securing 5th place. Catriona Macrae finished 8th in the event with  a 34.55. In the corresponding boys event, Cole Morgan place 8th was unable to recapture his 30.74 form from the morning prelims and had to be content with a 32,03 8th place finish.

In the 4 x100m freestyle relays the boys 11/12yrs put in a good show to finish in 7th place whilst the 13/14yrs girls were also competitive with their 8th place.

Day 1 done and Cayman Swimming is coming...
