16yr Old Ruta Meilutyte Makes History

 
Ruta Meilutyte, a training partner of Cayman's Lara & Geoffrey Butler, set a new European Record of 29.96 for the 50m breaststroke at the Mare Nostrum Meet in Barcelona.

Ruta, still only 16yrs old, won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title in London last year and 4 days ago set a new European Record for the 100m breaststroke of 1:05.20 in Monaco.

Her 50m breaststroke time was even more impressive as she isn't rested and the starting blocks had no wedge platform.

Yes, Ruta is a very special swimmer and with a small population the probability of finding a Ruta or a Michael Phelps is reduced (although not impossible). However, the times we ask Cayman Swimmers to achieve are easily achievable with the right kind of work.

Mediocrity isnt an option.....raise your expectations......CARIFTA isn't FAST!
