Job Done In The Prelims At Island Games

It was a case of JOB WELL DONE for Cayman swimmers in this morning's preliminaries at the Island Games.

Olympians and Pan Am medallists, Shaune and Brett Fraser, cruised through to the final of the 100m freestyle in 49.68 and 50,56; these times placing them 1st and 3rd into the final. They went on the go through as 1st and 2nd in the 50m butterfly; Brett at 24.09 and Shaune at 24.37.

Alex McCallum, growing in confidence and stature with every swim, popped in a 3 second lifetime best to secure 5th place into the final of the 200m backstroke; Alex's time was 2:10.73.

Lara Butler clinched an outside lane spot in the final of the 200m backstroke, her 2:26.28 heat swim placing her 7th....can she be an "outside lane smoker" again!

The Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay had an easy ride into the final with 1 of the 9 teams entered being DQ'd. The team of Alex McCallum (1:04.61), Shaune Fraser (1:05.75), Brett Fraser (56.53) and Geoffrey Butler (56.02) qualified as 2nd fastest for tonights race.

A slow reaction time cost Coral Tomascik dearly in the 50m freestyle; last off the blocks she raced to a 28.68 to finish a disappointing 13th; she went on the place 11th in the 200m backstroke in 2:31.24.

So, plenty to get excited about in this evenings finals session!
