FINA Scholarships Report 2017

FINA is pleased to present the 2017 Scholarships Report, as FINA followed carefully the Scholarship holders’ evolution throughout the first semester of the year and analysed their results at various events.

40 FINA Scholarships were up for grabs in 2017, while 39 young promising athletes benefited from them.

Among the National Federations represented were: Aruba, Antigua and Barbados, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji Islands, Guyana, India, Jordan, Kenya, Kirgizstan, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mauritius, Moldovia, Morocco, Namibia, Paraguay, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Surinam, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, Uruguay, Zambia.

The scholarships, from 3-12 months, supported the athletes in their preparation and qualification for the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest (HUN), with a particular focus on athletes and NFs with the greatest needs.

While athletes are put forward by their respective NF, FINA provides assistance to the scholarship holders by supporting their NF or by offering the opportunity to train in a high-level training centre.

Ten cities to host the 2018 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series

In the spotlight

FINA is pleased to announce the 2018 calendar of the second edition of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series, the latest addition on the Aquatic calendar.

The ten-meet competition will kick-off with the Open Make up for Ever on March 9-11 in Montreuil, next to Paris in France.

It will then stop in China (city tbc) for the China Open from April 21-23, in Tokyo (JPN) for the Japan Open from April 27-30, in Samorin (SVK) from May 11-13, in Budapest (HUN) from May 18-20, in Spain (city tbc) from May 25-27 for the Trofeo Infantas de Espana and in Surrey (CAN) from May 30- June 2.

The last three events of the 2018 circuit will be held in Los Angeles (USA) from June 7-9, in Syros Island (GRE) on June 15-17 and in Tashkent (UZB) from June 28-30.

The particularity of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series is that the circuit integrates existing and well-recognised competitions in the sport. The international teams taking part collect points at each meet and final ranking with prize money are then established in accordance.

Italy looks at overall 2017 10km MSWC victory

Simone Ruffini and Arianna Bridi of Italy swam one lap closer to the overall 2017 FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup victory last weekend in Chun’an, China, as they maintained their leading position of the men and the women ranking respectively.

Despite both swimmers did not win the latest leg on Sunday October 15, they both accumulated enough points to look at the overall victory of the Series, to be announced next Saturday October 21 in Hong Kong where the last race of the season will be held.

After two wins in Viedma (ARG) and in Lac St-Jean (CAN) and numerous silver and bronze medals, Bridi has 104 points. She is in front of Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil, winner of the last two events in Lac Megantic (CAN) and Chun’an, and 2016 overall winner Rachele Bruni (ITA), who both rank second with 84 points each.

With one victory in Lac St-Jean, Ruffini leads the men’s operations with 77 points, in front of compatriot Federico Vanelli (76 point) and Brazil’s Allan do Carmo, 62 points. Ruffini claimed the overall victory in 2016.
