November 2010 Pastor Randy Von Kanel and Mike Flowers spoke of revitalizing the idea of establishing a YMCA in Cayman Early 2011 Group of community-minded individuals rallied together, concerned about our youth and violent crime in Cayman May 2012 Legally established the YMCA of the Cayman Islands, launched with a family fun day and community needs assessment survey Early 2013 A devoted group of volunteers and community members provided initial funds to hire the Y's first member of stafF Summer 2013 Sponsored Government sports camp programmes October 2013 Hired first CEO April 2014 Board members reached out for financial support from close friends and family through the Individual Founders Campaign Early 2014 Launched first Y-operated programmes: Day Camp, Family Fitness, Teen Leaders, Teambuilding July 2014 Received official charter from World Alliance of YMCAs September 2014 Awarded contract to support quality improvements in the Government Extended After School Programme September 2015 Awarded contract to operate Extended After School Programme in 8 government schools January 2016 Hosted first Annual Leaders for Youth Conference, providing training with international and local facilitators for staff, volunteers, and programme partners June 2016 Launched second phase of financial support requests to the business community, titled the Corporate Founders Campaign September 2016 Added East End Primary to the list of schools provided after school service through the EASP, bringing the total of sites operated to 9, with placements from 16 government primary and high schools, impacting as many as 1600 youth March 2017 Announced plans to build ropes challenge course to promote team-building and social skill development, made possible by the DG's 5K Challenge and support from CUC Spring/Summer 2017 Launched traditional Y Day Camp in Cayman Brac and first Summer Camp Exchange Programme for Cayman Brac campers/C.I.T.s - exchange programme made possible through funds raised by the DG's 5K Challenge! |
