CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON THE Y ROPES COURSE!

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Y Ropes Challenge Course was held on Saturday, 9 December 2017 at the Little League Field of Dreams . The Course is being built with funds from the 2017 Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge which raised a record $85,000!

"I am delighted that work has now begun on the ropes challenge course and that it will soon be up and running," said Deputy Governor Franz Manderson . "The purpose of the DG's 5K Challenge is to help projects such as this, which are of benefit to the community. We aim to be part of the solution to the many issues that we face in the Cayman Islands."

The course will consist of ground-level structures for team-building and communication-skills development, as well as a 50-foot tall Alpine tower for confidence-building and improving problem-solving skills.

"We are thrilled that we have now broken ground and that construction of the ropes challenge course will begin next month," said YMCA Chairman Andrew Johnson . "We intend the facility to be of benefit to everyone in the community, especially our young people. On behalf of the YMCA, I once again give a huge thank you to the Deputy Governor and his team for raising the money to make this possible."

The ropes challenge course is slated to be on budget at around $80,000, with the support of CUC, which has donated electricity

poles.

THE Y BRINGS CUPCAKES & CHRISTMAS CHEER TO THE PINK LADIES!

Students from the John Gray & Clifton Hunter Extended After-School programme helped spread holiday cheer at the Pink Ladies Christmas Bazaar recently.

The JGHS cooking clubs baked over 100 cookies and cupcakes while the CHHS cooking students were on hand to provide decorating expertise to the children who stopped by to create their own cookie art work.

Special thank you to the GEMS (Girls Empowerment Motivational Sessions) and Girls' Code Clubs for assisting with ornament making for all the children who attended the Bazaar.

This is truly teen leadership in action!

Pam Fowler   (on right) joined the Y board in January 2016 and wasted no time in getting involved! Pam has served on the Marketing & Events committee and also led an ad hoc insurance committee for the past year.  At the beginning of 2017, she took on the demanding role of Board Secretary and, beginning in 2018, Pam will serve as Chair for the Board Development Committee.

Pam truly lives her desire to help strengthen and develop the community through her dedication to the Y and its many programmes.

You're amazing, Pam! Thank you for your service to our community!

ANNUAL LEADERS CONFERENCE

The YMCA will host the 3rd Annual Leaders for Youth Conference in January 2018.  This conference is an opportunity for us as leaders, and as a community, to learn and grow together.

The theme for 2018 is "The Power of Perspective" and will focus on the role we play and ability we have to influence the youth we work with. Last year over 130 staff, volunteers and community partners attended the two day event and we expect even more in 2018!
