Athletes from Team Canada and Team USA combine for more than 50 medals at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, launching the countries of Panam Sports to a second-place finish among the continental confederations.

Shaun White rebounded from the nightmare of Sochi 2014 where he failed to place on the Olympic podium by earning his third Olympic gold in Halfpipe Snowboard at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games. He demonstrated once again why he is one of the greatest winter sports athletes by making the comeback from injuries and Olympic disappointment to give Team USA its 100th gold medal.

Tennis is the latest sport to confirm that athletes competing at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games can qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

The gold and silver medalists in both men’s and women’s singles will earn a chance to compete in Japan, along with athletes from 14 other sports that will be featured when the capital of Peru ignites the Pan Am flame in July 2019.

The Panam Sports Executive Committee will meet in Lima, Peru on the 13th and 14th. Over the course of two days, the Executive Committee will discuss the Panam Sports Strategic Plan that will be presented to the General Assembly in September and will receive a comprehensive update from the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee.  Among the topics to be discussed are the 2018 budget, marketing initiatives, the work of the commissions and the planning of the new Pan American events.

Panam Sports Executive Committee member Veda Bruno-Victor says the sports development growth seen in her country and throughout the Americas will continue with the new leadership and direction of Panam Sports.

Returning to South Korea for the first time in 30 years - this time as an Olympic spectator - Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega reminisces about visiting the country as a modern pentathlete competing in the Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics.

“I was swarmed with memories,” Ivar said when asked about seeing the Seoul Olympic Stadium for the time since he marched with Mexico in 1988. “A brilliant opening ceremony. It was very special and emotional to see that Park again.”

Thirty-two of the 41 nations of Panam Sports are on a quest for gold at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England. Athletes from the Americas represent more than 25 percent of the total competition.

The IAAF World Indoor Championships begin March 2nd as the world’s best track and field athletes converge in Birmingham, England for an updated version of the event.

The Argentinean women’s field hockey team won medals at four consecutive Olympic Games led by Luciana Paula Aymar, often considered the best field hockey player of all time and a true Panam Sports legend.
