While most of us would not consider the 1.3 mile race a sprint, Andrew Smiley did. Andrew swam the race in 26.07 mins to win the Open Division of the Mott's Channel Swim in North Carolina. The time was Andrew's personal best as well as a Cayman Islands record for the event. Fellow Special Olympian Kanza Bodden finished the woman's race in in 56.06 mins. swimming with Unified partner Lois Moody. Kanza's time was also a personal best.

Cayman Islands Special Olympics Open Water Swimming On October 11, Open Water SOCI athletes Andrew Smilley and Kanza Bodden along with Unified partner, Lois Moody will compete in the Mott’s Channel Sprint to be held in Wilmington Beach, North Carolina. The swim is a 1.3 mile straight course swim in much darker and colder water than they are used to off Seven Mile Beach. Cole Morgan won the Cayman Brac 800 meter swim held on Sept. 27th with a time of 12:57.78. While Cole sprinted on ahead the race for second was much closer. CIASA president Michael Lockwood and former CIASA president Bill McFarland raced head to head much of the race with Michael pulling ahead at the end. Roxane Boonstra was the top female swimmer finishing forth overall while Stephanie Roystan was the top age group finisher in fifth place overall. The Cayman Islands National Team Calendar is very full for the 2014-15 year. This year Cayman Swimmers will travel to repersent the Cayman Islands for eleven international events. The first event for the season will be the Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City. The event begins the 24rd of September and concludes the 30th of September. The event includes educational oppertunies for the athletes as well as competitive events. This is the second such event help by PASO, the govering body for the Pan American Games. Over 170 swimmers swam the Fosters Food Fair Sea Swim to kick off the 2014-15 season. As usual it was a great experience for everyone.
