Stingray swimmers continued to rack up the PB's and Finals Placing on Day 1 of the SYS Memorial Meet in Sarasota. Corey Westerborg, recovering from sickness, took 8th place in the boys 10yrs&U 100m breaststroke (1:53.13) and 50m backstroke (44.34) whilst Jonathon Anderson stormed to a 32.49 50m freestyle to clinch 8th spot in the 11/12yrs 50m freestyle. Plenty more FAST SWIMMING to come today.
Cayman swimmers wound up the SYS Memorial Meet in Sarasota with more Top 8 finishes. Christopher Courtis and Alex McCallum led the way with 5th place finishes in the 15yrs+ 200m freestyle (2:02.44) and 200m backstroke (2:20.29) respectively. They both went on to place in the 100m freestyle; Christopher finishing 4th in 56.77 and Alex 6th in 57.37. Medals and Top 8 finishes were the order of the day during the opening sessions of the SYS In Sarasota. Chris Courtis, recently returned from a successful collegiate season in Canada, swam to silver in the 15ys+ 100m backstroke (1:02.60) and bronze in the 200m IM (2:15.47) Alex Mccallum and Cole Morgan completed the Cayman contingent in the Top 8 of the 100m backstroke; Alex finishing 5th (1:06.08) and Cole 7th (1:06.26); Alex went on to place 8th in the 400m freestyle (4:25.09) More Fast Swimming to come.....
The Butterfield Sea Swim will once again attract a contingent of Special Olympians. The race, which takes place off Governors Beach on May 25th, has attracted 32 people from 9 nations who will compete under the Special Olympics banner. http://compasscayman.com/caycompass/2013/05/17/Special-Olympics-to-make-a-splash/ Together with an expected good turnout from local swimmers this event will, once again, prove to be Sea Swim Extravaganza. Stingray swimmers are heading to Sarasota to compete in the SYS Invitational Long Course Meet. The 14 strong team, consisting of novice through to experienced, will compete in a variety of events over 3 days. We will provide updates once a results link has been established. Fast Swimming...Here We Come! (and...a pool like this would be nice!)
The Bermuda Summer National Age Group Championships will take place 16th -19th May. As soon as a results link becomes available it will be posted here. In the meantime happy hunting!
