Alex McCallum and Danielle Boothe took the Men's and Women's titles at the recent Butterfield 800m Sea Swim; an event which attracted 144 swimmers including Special Olympians from 9 Nations. Unfortunately, what started as an exciting weekend for Cayman Swimming ended in tragedy when Pablo Perez Larza (Special Olympian from Uruguay) experienced difficuties during the swim. Pablo was immediately pulled from the water and treated by the medical support team before being taken to hospital where it was announced he had passed away. There are many Learn To Swim/Swimming Development Programmes on Island and as a way of ensuring quality assurance CIASA is formulating a list of APPROVED PROGRAMMES. Some have already applied and are undergoing a rigorous assessment. Watch this space for further news!

The Lions Sprint Meet proved to be a defining moment in Cayman Swimming with 170+ competitors, 5 team, superb organisation and officiating plus outstanding racing.....truly a sight to behold! The 143 keenly contested heats across 48 events produced a host of lifetime best swims and saw many swimmers leave the meet with ribbons, medals, high point trophies.....and big SMILES! In amongst this swimming spectacular were Record Breaking performances. Alison Jackson took down the CIASA 9/10yrs 50m backstroke record with a 37.92 whilst Danielle Boothe set new figures of 27.54 in...
The search for a new Technical Director has begun. The four person search sub committee has placed advertisements with the major swimming websites (including our own) with a closing date of June 30th. Visiting coaches were treated to a highly informative clinic yesterday morning and this was followed by a practical swim clinic for Special Olympians. Coach Annie from Washington DC, and our own Coach Paula Swaby, took the swimmers through the skills and drills necessary for successful Open Water Swimming. The swimmers will visit Governors Beach this morning to view the course and then take to the beautiful waters of 7 Mile Beach this afternoon for the Butterfield 800m Sea Swim. What a GREAT weekend for all concerned!
Congratulations to Coach Jessica Siegele on taking 3rd place in the Figures Category at the recent Women's Body Building Competition in Orlando, Florida. This was her first ever competition and the future looks bright. Well Done Coach Jess!
This weekend sees Special Olympians travel to Cayman to participate in a series of Open Water Swim Clinics before heading to the waters off Governors Beach to race in the Butterfleld 800m Sea Swim. The waters of the Lions Pool will be on fire tomorrow as swimmers from Stingray, Camana Bay Aquatic Club, Treasure Island Swim Team, Triple C and Sister Islands Swim Club line up and race at the Lions Sprint Meet. The magic waters will provide the perfect environment for fast and furious swimming.... Get excited!
Many of our swimmers have made tremendous improvements over recent months so a big WELL DONE to them. However, swimming is a year round sport which requires a consistent approach to training and a relentless pursuit of goals. We are getting there and we have a number of swimmers who are stepping up to the plate; believing they can swim much faster and working towards those goals with a focused approach.
