Coaches and interested parties from Camana Bay Aquatic Club, Treasure Island Swim School and Stingray Swim Club were treated to an interesting, informative and enjoyable presentation from Dr Di Bass. Dr, Bass, a well respected Coach and Academic spoke on her specialist area of research "The Coach- Swimmer- Parent Triangle" An excellent Professional Development opportunity for the Cayman Coaches.
Fun and Fast Swimming was the order of the day in Cayman at the George Anderson Memorial Meet organised by the Lions Club. Swimmers from Primary & Secondary Schools took to the waters of the 15m pool to create some waves as they battled for individual medals and valuable points for their respective teams. Thanks to the organisers and supporters a GOOD TIME was had by all.
CARIFTA 200m Backstroke Champion, Lauren Hew, struck gold at the North Shore Invitational Meet in Boston. Capitalising on her success in the 50m butterfly, Lauren stormed to victory in the 13yrs+ 50m backstroke with a time of 33,74: she also placed 5th in the 200m backstroke (2:33.52) and 14th in the 100m freestyle in 1:05.58. Kavanagh Lambert took 11th place in the 13yrs+ 100m breaststroke in 1:25.52. A good weekend's work ladies!
CARIFTA Champions, Kavanagh Lambert and Lauren Hew, took bronze medals in the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly respectively,at the North Shore Invitational Meeet at MiT, Cambridge MA; Kav's time was 39.10 and Lauren's 31.65 was a new 13/14yrs Cayman National Long Course Record! Lauren also put in a fine swim of 1:12.28 in the 100m backstroke to take 4th place. Well Done Ladies!
Cayman Prep held their school swimming gala at the Lions Pool yesterday. The kids certainly had FUN and it was GREAT to see so many from the Cayman Swimming Community helping on the day. A fine time was had by all!!
CIASA begins the search for a new Technical Director as from today. Ian Armiger, the current Technical Director, will step down from his position at the end of July and a sub committe consisting of Michael Lockwood, Ian Lambert, Jim Fraser and Ian Armiger has been formed to find a suitable replacement. CIASA is committed to appointing a dynamic person who can continue to drive Cayman Swimming onwards and upwards..
Usain Bolt won 100m at the Cayman Invitational Track Meeting last night. After wowing students and visitors alike during his whistle stop visit, Bolt took to the track to do what he does best....RUN FAST! CARIFTA 2013 Champions, Lauren Hew and Kavanagh Lambert head to Cambridge, MA this weekend to compete in the North Shore Swim Club Team Speciality Meet which is being held at MiT. Lauren and Kav will compete in a variety of event and will be looking to achieve qualifying times for the forthcoming Canadian Age Group Championships. Lara Butler and Matthew Courtis secured podium places at the South West Youth Championships which were held at Millfield School in the UK. Lara put in a strong second half to take silver in the 17yrs+ 200m butterfly with a 2:25.19 whilst Matthew took bronze in the corresponding men's event with a 2:14.78. These, combined with Geoffrey Butler's silver in the 1500m freestyle, means all three Cayman swimmers come away from the meet with some hardware. Nice job!
