Almost 900 swimmers took to the beautiful waters off Seven Mile Beach to participate in the 21st Flowers Annual Sea Swim. From tiny tots to the more mature, a great time was had by all as they tackled the one mile sea swim. Once again, a fine, well organised swim spectacular! With past and present Olympians entering the event the competition was bound to be intense and the crowds were not disappointed. Brad Hutton, the new Head Coach of Camana Bay Aquatic Club, is paying a short visit to Cayman. Teams from the USA & Canada arrived yesterday and headed straight to the pool. World Championship swimmers from Canda took the plunge at the Lions Pool (Heather, Zofie, Nadine) under the direction of Coach Linda whilst Coach Dave Kelsheimer put his USA Team Representatives through their paces at Camana Bay. The Olympians Dinner, held at Luca last night, kicked of what will be a superb week of swimming and a showcase for all things Cayman. Get Excited! It's all happening in Cayman Swimming!
Swimmers for the Flowers Swim Week have started to arrive....with teams from the USA and Canada coming in yesterday. The Flowers Swim Extravaganza kicks of on Saturday with the world famous Flowers Mile then, after a one day rest, some of the swmimers take to the water again for the 5km/10km challenge. With Olympians, Inernationals and local swimmers, we are in for a superb few days of Sea Swimming. Cayman Swimming! We Love It!
Chloe McCardel has abandoned her attempt to swim the 107km from Cuba to Florida. After completing around one quarter of the swim jellyfish stings prevented her from continuing. Chloe, raising money for Cancer Research, was attempting the swim without Shark Cages or bite proof suits, relying totally on the technology of an electro magnetic field.
After a successful campaign at the Pan American Masters Championships in Sarasota, Cayman Masters swimmers are looking towards the World Masters Championships in 2014. The meet will take place in Montreal 27th July to 10th August and will be a combination of FUN and FAST SWIMMING. There was a fine turnout for the Special Olympics Swim Meet which was recently held at the Lions Pool. Good to see so many enjoying a spot of Fast Swimming....and also to see club swimmers assisting with the running of the meet. Well Done to all concerned!.
