St.Ignatius Catholic School held their Annual Swimming Championships at the Lions Pool yesterday. Friendly rivalry between competing houses and fast swimming was the order of the day. The scores were: 1st St. Mark 380 2nd St. Luke 355 3rd St. Matthew 340 4th St. John 330 A fine job from all concerned; particularly Coach Gill. Well Done! .
Ruta Meilutyte, a training partner of Cayman's Lara & Geoffrey Butler, set a new European Record of 29.96 for the 50m breaststroke at the Mare Nostrum Meet in Barcelona. Ruta, still only 16yrs old, won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title in London last year and 4 days ago set a new European Record for the 100m breaststroke of 1:05.20 in Monaco. Her 50m breaststroke time was even more impressive as she isn't rested and the starting blocks had no wedge platform. Great Swimming! CARIFTA medallist, Coral Tomascik, is spending a few days training in Swimming Canada's High Performance Centre in Toronto. As a special guest of Coach Ben Titley, one of the World's finest coaches, she will experience life in the professional and focused environment of elite swimming. What a great opportunity!

Cayman swimmers William Balderamos, Justin Thomas and Anthony Lyons, travelled to Sarasota, Florida to compete in the Pan American Masters Long Course Championships. All three opened their account in style with Top 16 finishes in the 100m freestyle; William (25-29yrs) placed 10th with 1:01.40, Anthony (35-39yrs) took 15th in 1:04.79 whilst Justin (25-29yrs) secured 16th in 1:05.29.
