In a study of 10,568 athletes at the 2012 Olympic Games it was found that 11% and 7% of athletes incurred at least one injury or illness respectively. Women suffered 60% more illnesses that men and the rate of illness was highest in athletics, beach volleyball, football and sailing. 41% of illnesses affected the respiratory tract and the most common cause was infection. Camana Bay Aquatic Club will celebrate this year's successes at their Annual Awards Banquet which will be held att the Georgetown Yacht Club this Saturday (1st June) A series of awards will be presented to individual swimmers in recognition of their outstanding achievments in the training pool as well as in competition. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) ranking of 26 sports at the Summer Olympics gave Gold to Athletics, Silver to Swimming and Bronze to Gymnastics' rankings based on, amongst other things, broadcasting results. The ranking is important as the amount of funding each sport receives from the IOC depends upon it e.g. athletics received the biggest share of the $519 million total grant given towards preparations for London 2012.
