Such was the amazing success of the Splash, Dash & Dine that people are still talking....and asking when the next swim extravaganza will be!! Local swimmer, Christopher Courtis, delivered some outstanding swims and lifetime best performances over the weekend. Representing Wilfred Laurier University in the Ontario Cup(short course), he raced to a 27.56 secs 50m fly, 58.55 & 2:09.25 100m & 200m backstroke, a 25.15 50m freestyle and a 2:12.69 200m Individual Medley. Fine Swimming! We Love It!
CBAC held their from Cayman to CARIFTA swim a thon yesterday and spiced up the proceedings with a Jamaican theme; Coach Jess is pictured getting into the spirit of things. The swimmers took to the waters of the Camana Bay Pool with one eye on beating the total distance swum from the previous year and another on the magnificent draw prizes of ipad minis. A fun day was had by all! Ya Man!
The weather was drizzle more than sizzle for Stingray's first Burner Meet of 2013. However, the spirits of swimmers weren't dampened as they enjoyed some fine racing over 25m & 50m sprint events. Fast Swimming to start the year... Just what we like!
Peter Mackay (President), Jim Fraser and Ian Armiger represented CIASA at the recent National Sports Policy & Strategic Planning Workshop. The two day event, held at the National Gallery, included many representatives from Government and Sport who, through a series of visioning exercises, examined the role of schools, clubs, national sports associations and the Cayman Islands Government in the development and delivery of a National Sports Policy. A productive two days.....(with tasty patties included!)
Recharged by his visit to Cayman, Liam Tancock will race in Antwerp this weekend before heading to Phuket, Thailand for a 2-3 week training camp. Liam will be joined by other swimmers from his training group ie Amy Smith (who visited us last year), Francesca Halsall (World Silver Medallist) and Grant Turner. They will be under the direction of new coach, James Gibson, himself a World Champion in the 50m Breaststroke. Nice Facility! We want one!!!
Some Open Water races begin with a beach start....Coach Dave demonstrated this with style..much to the delight of the swimmers and the many passers by on Seven Mile Beach. Way to go Coach Dave...a true professional!
Camana Bay Aquatic Club swimmers went down to the beach for some Open Water training. Coach Jess and Coach Dave took them through the technicalities of swimming around buoys and finishing at elevated touch pads (used in international open water events) A good time was had by all!
The four day Swim Extravaganza with visiting Olympians Liam Tancock, Caitlin McClatchey and Conor Dwyer concluded with a spectacular brunch. Inspirational talks from the three world class swimmers, video clips, live & silent auctions, combined with fine food and social chat, resulted in a outstanding afternoon for the Cayman Swimming Community. Sam Burnstein sprinted to success at the Green Turtle Invitational Meet held at the Camana Bay Pool. Sam. lining up against swimmers from Cleveland Sate University, powered his way to a 34.18 secs 50m butterfly; his time being inside the CARIFTA Qualifying Time. Matthew Somerville, having previously achieved several times at the Mega City Meet in Toronto, alos raced inside the required standards with a 34.94secs 50m butterfly and 31.12secs 50m freestyle. Zororo Mutomba looked impressive as she displayed strength and speed to set a new CIASA record in the...
