Lauren Hew delivered the swim she was waiting for when racing to a CARIFTA Qualifying Time on the final morning of the Youth Cup in Toronto. Setting a strong early pace in the 200m backstroke, she brought the race home in a new lifetime best of 2:34.63 and put herself in contention for a place on the Cayman Team for CARIFTA Great job!

A medal haul of 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze, plus a new CARIFTA Qualifying Time was the order of the day in Toronto. Matthew Somerville sprinted to victory in the 11/12yrs 50m butterfly to strike GOLD in a new CARIFTA Qualifying Time of 35.01. Silver medals went to Zororo Mutomba in the 10yrs& under 200m freestyle (her time of 2:43.28 being only 0.09secs behind gold), Coral Tomascik in the 15/17yrs 200m freestyle (2:17.91), Jordan Crooks in the 9/10yrs 50m butterfly and Iabella Tognazzo in the 14yrs 200m freestyle...

Lara Butler and Matthew Courtis placed 6th in their respective finals on Day 1 of the South West Regional Short Course Championships. Lara, swam 2:24.09 in the heats of the 200m butterfly to make it through to the final; she showed consitent form by going 2:24.15 in the finals; earlier in the meet she posted a 30.25 50m butterfly and a 1:00.22 100m freestyle. Isabella Tognazzo, Lauren Hew, Zororo Mutomba and Matthew Somerville struck medals on Day 2 of the Mega City Meet in Toronto. Isabella, swimming with confidence from her podium places on Day 1, raced to victory in the 14yrs 200m backstroke with 2:38.61 but it was her 1:05.70 silver medal in the 100m freestyle which gave her most satisfaction as this was a new CARIFTA Qualifying Time. Lauren Hew narrowly missed the 100m backstroke CARIFTA time with a superb lifetime best of 1:12.62 but then rallied in the 100m 13yrs 100m...

Kavanagh Lambert raced to 8th spot in the 11/12yrs 200m breaststroke at the Youth Cup in Toronto. After a solid 400m IM of 5:52.89 on Day 1, Kav swam to a 2:59.82 Top 8 finish in the 200m breaststroke...only 1.4 seconds off the podium! More Fast Swimming to come!

Isabella Tognazzo swam to a tremendous lifetime best of 3:03.57 to take the 14yrs 200m breaststroke title in the opening session of the Mega City Meet in Toronto. Isabella went on to finish 4th in the 14yrs 200m individual medley with another lifetime best of 2:42.59, teammate Lauren Hew finishing 6th in the 13yrs age group with 2:42.13: both swimmers are now within striking distance of the CARIFTA Qualifying standard of 2:39.29.
