Lara & Geoffrey Butler took bronze medals on the final day of the Plymouth Open Long Course Meet. Lara Butler swam solid heats to make the finals of the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly at the Plymouth Open Long Course Meet in the UK. Looking smooth and strong, Lara popped in heat swims of 2:28.68 and 1:07.77 in the 200m IM & 100m Fly respectively. Swimming in the 11/12yrs 200m freestyle she lifted the title in 2:28.4; only half a second outside the meet record. Geoffrey Butler blew away the opposition on the opening night of the Plymouth Leander Open Meet. Swimming in the 1500m freestyle, Geoffrey maintained superb pacing to take the 17yrs+ title in a huge lifetime best of 16:30.55; some 16 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. The time, outstanding for his first long course outing of the season, sees him get closer to the 2014 Commonwealth Games Qualifying Time of 16:22.49 Matthew Courtis placed 4th in the same race in 17:40.03 A great start to the meet!!
Stingray swimmers opened their account in Jamaica with medals and a meet record. Samantha Bailey swam a superbly paced race to take the girls 11/12yrs 100m backstroke title in a new meet record of 1:17.4 whilst Catriona Macrae raced to a lifetime best of 1:13.0 to take the 13/14yrs 100m backstoke. Stingray swimmers head to Jamaica tomorrow for the Christmas Open Swimming Championships. The Long Course meet, which takes place at the National Stadium Pool in Kingston, will give the 14 strong contingent an opportunity to compete in a range of events, test their training and gain invaulable 50m pool experience.
