Former Cayman Coach Dave Kelsheimer named to 2013-2014 USA Swimming Nat'l Team Coaches List Sep 4, 2013 USA Swimming has listed Team Santa Monica Head Coach Dave Kelsheimer as a 2013-2014 National Team coach. Dave is also listed as a National Junior Team coach. Dave is one of only 14 coaches around the country to receive both honors this year. That short list includes Olympic Team coaches Bob Bowman and David Marsh. Congratulations Dave!!!!!!
The 25th annual CUC 800 meter Sea Swim will start at 4:00 pm this Saturday, October 12th. The course will run from Public Beach to Governor's Beach. Registration is from 3:00 to 3:45 pm at Public Beach. In attendance this week we are expecting Cayman's own Olympic standout, Brett Fraser. USA Swimming National Team member Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky.) wrapped up the overall women’s title in the 2013 FINA 10-kilometer Marathon Swimming World Cup following the eighth and final race of the season Oct. 5 in Hong Kong. Brunemann, who finished 10th over the weekend in Hong Kong, topped the series standings with 107 points. Martina Grimaldi of Italy was second with 98 points, while Brazil’s Ana Marcela Cunha concluded the 2013 series with 96 points. The 29th Annual Foster’s Food Fair 800 Meter Sea Swim took place on September the 14th. This year for the first time the race started at Public Beach and finished at Governor’s Beach. In the Men’s race Matthew Courtis finished first followed by Cole Morgan and Andrew Smilley finished third. The Women’s race proved to be the race of the day. Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) and Mireia Belmonte (Spain) continued to light up the pool on the World Cup Circuit. During the final session of the Berlin leg, Katinka Hosszu swam to a new World Record of 4:20.85 in the 400m IM whilst Mireia Belmonte took down the 400m freestyle World Record with a 3:54.52. In two meets, Eindhoven and Berlin, Hosszu has set 6 World Records and collected total prize money in excess of $115,000. Fantastic Swimming! Coach Brad Hutton, the new Camana Bay Aquatic Club Head Coach, is looking forward to taking up his position on August 25th. After the Canada Games,where he is coaching a Newfoundland Team, Brad, his wife Ariel and young daughter, will pack their bags and head for Cayman. Andrew Seliskar, at 16yrs old, set a new USA National Age Group Record of 1:56.54 in the 200m Fly at the US Junior National Long Course Championships. He also set a new Age Group record in the 200m IM of 2:00.26.
