Andrew Seliskar, at 16yrs old, set a new USA National Age Group Record of 1:56.54 in the 200m Fly at the US Junior National Long Course Championships. He also set a new Age Group record in the 200m IM of 2:00.26. Matthew Courtis, soon to be competing in the World Junior Championships in Dubai, led the field in the first round of Cayman Stroke and Stride. Matthew was first past the post in 17:16.00 with Greg Meaker 2nd in 20:03.00 and Masters Swimmer, William Balderamos, 3rd in 20:30.00. Cayman's Matthew Courtis is busy preparing for the World Junior Championships which are to be held in Dubai 26th-31st August. http://www.fina.org/H2O/docs/events/swjuniors2013/info_may16.pdf Matthew, who represents Barbados, suffered a painful knee injury prior to this year's CARIFTA and this severely affected his ability to race to his full potential at the meet, However, he is now peraring well at the Lion's Pool, is fully fit and raring to go. A week ago we featured a piece on the website about the importance of a good finish and flagged up the famous finish of Michael Phelps when he won GOLD in the 100m butterfly at the 2008 Olympics. This morning Hungarian, Katinka Hosszu, has just reinforced this idea by breaking the World Record for the 100m IM with a time of 57.73; a mere one hundredth inside the old record. Caleb Dressel, the 16yr old sprint sensation from the Bolles School in Jacksonsville, Florida, set a new US Age Group Long Course Record of 49.28 in the prelims of the 100m freestyle at the US Junior National Championships. His splits were 23.15/26.13 and observers note that he cruised the final few metres of the race.. More to come in the final perhaps Now....that's FAST SWIMMING!
As soon as the World Championships had finished some swimmers packed their swimsuits and goggles and headed straight on to the World Cup Circuit. This morning in Eindhoven Katinka Hosszu (Hun) took to the water in the heats of the 200m IM and promptly posted a new World Record of 2:04.39. The waters of the short course pool in Eindhoven were BOILING as the crowd were treated to 3 more World Short Course Records at the FINA World Cup. Katinka Hosszu destroyed the field in the final of the 200m IM to wipe her own record (set in the morning prelims) off the books and rewrite the mark with a 2:03.20. Chad Le Clos powered his way to a new record time of 1:49.04 in the 200m butterfly while Ranomi Kromowidjojo blasted her way to a 23.24 50m freestyle. The World...

Coach Ryans Mushin has been appointed as the new Snr Swimming Instructor at the Lion's Pool. Ryan, a qualified PE Teacher and Coach at Team Santa Monica,California, brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position. Most recently he has been Teaching PE and Swimming at Grace Christian Academy. Coach Ryan is will be working together with Coach Paula and Coach Chester to produce an exciting and vibrant swimming development at the Lions Pool! Great things are happening in Cayman Swimming and They just keep happening!!
