The curtain has come down on the World Swimming Championships. Highlights of the final session were: Camille Lacourt (Fra) won the 50m backstroke in 24,42 with teammate Jeremy Stravius 2nd in 24.54.....yes, Liam Tancock's World Record is still in tact! Yuliya Efimova (Rus) took the 50m breaststroke in 29.52 ahead of Ruta Meilutyte 29.53! Interestingly Ruta will have collected $75,000 in prize money at these Championships ( 2 World Records plus a Gold and a Silver) Ranomi Kromowodjojo (Neth) took Gold in the 50m freestyle (24.05), Cate Campbell (AUS) silver...

Lara Butler finished her ASA National Youth Championships with a 1:07.47 backstroke lead off swim in the Plymouth Leander's Medley Relay; a time which is just outside her own CIASA Record. Lara has put in superb month of racing; taking medals and records at the recent Island Games and swimming to lifetime bests at the Youth Championships in Sheffield. She now looks forward to gaining the necessary A Level grades and continuing her swimming/academic career at Loughborough University. Great Job Lara and Good Luck from all at Cayman Swimming

Cayman Swimming gave Ian & Sylvia Armiger a warm send off at Fidel Murphy's last night. Drinks, Nibbles and Merriment were the order of the evening as CIASA President, Peter Mackay, thanked them for the work they'd done for Cayman Swimming over the past 12 months and presented them with an album of memorable photographs. And a GOOD TIME was had by all.

Only 16yrs of age but mature beyond their years, Ruta Meilutyte and Katie Ledecky once again shifted the boundaries of global standards. Ruta, having already set a World Record and won the World title in the 100m breaststroke, exploded off the blocks in the semi final of the 50m breaststroke to smash the World Record with an awe inspiring time of 29.48. Katie Ledecky, Gold Medallist in the 400m freestyle and 1500m freestyle, set her second World Record of the Championships with an 8:13.86 800m freestyle; Denmark's Lotte Friis took...

CARIFTA Champion and Island Games Medallist, Geoffrey Butler swam to a Commonwealth Games Qualifying Time in the 1500m freestyle at the ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield. Geoff utilised his rhythmical, almost metronomic style, to perfectly pace the 30 lap race and set a lifetime best of 16:13.12 (only 2.4secs outside the CIASA Record) and swim well inside the Commonwealth Games Qualifying Standard of 16:22.49. Well Done Geoffrey! Great Job!

Fresh from her 200m breaststroke victory, Yuliya Efimova (Rus) stepped up to the block in he prelims of the 50m breaststroke and blasted her way to a new World Record of 29.78. The FAST SWIMMING keeps on coming! .

Lara Butler continued her run of fine swimming with a record breaking swim at the ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield. Leading off the Plymouth Leander 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay she set new CIASA & National figures of 1:00.92 What a month Lara has had... Multi medals and records at Island Games plus fine swimming in Sheffield.. Great Stuff!!! We Love It!

Lara Butler, multi Island Games medallist, raced to a lifetime best of 2:22.37 to make the semi final of the 15/18yrs 200m butterfly and the ASA National Championships in Sheffield, UK. This time is only 0.5 secs outside the Cayman Qualifying Time for next year's Commonwealth Games which are being held in Glasgow. Lara will also feature in the final of the 4 x 200m freestyle relay as part of the Plymouth Leander "B" Team. Great job Lara... and Good Luck for tonight..... Let's Do It!!!!
