The team for the Island Games set off for Bermuda this morning. Coach Andy Copley, Coral Tomascik, Lara Butler, Alex McCallum and Geoff Butler (pictured) left from Cayman early this morning and they will be joined in Miami by Olympians, Shaune and Brett Fraser. The team will spend a few days acclimatising to the venue and then begin racng on Monday 15th July FAST SWIMMING.... Here We Come!
Olympic finalist and Cayman Swim Visitor, Caitlin McClatchey, is in Kazan, Russia for the World University Games. She raced in the prelims of the 100m freestyle this morning, went 56.11 and made it to semi finals. Recently married, Coach Jess,leaves the Island this Sunday to start a new chapter of her life. With husband Lukasz, she is heading back to the USA. Coach Jess has made a great impact on Cayman Swimming during her short stay here and we wish her all the success for the future. Way to go Jess!
Treasure Island Swim Teaml is now a CIASA Affiliated Club. Coach Marie, the programme director, said " We are delighted to be recognised as an affiliated club and to be part of the Cayman Swimming Community. We will continue to provide a pathway from non swimmer to the podium and are excited about the future." Coach Daren Mew (pictured), is a former Great Britain Olympian and a key member of the competitive section of the club. A big WELCOME to Treasure Island Swim Club.
The CIASA Approved CARIFTA 2014 QUALIFYING TIMES have now been published on the National Teams section of this website. The meet will be held in Aruba, dates to be announced. The Qualifying Times, which make a swimmer eligible to be considered for selection, have to be achieved after September 1st 2013. Last year saw a huge improvement from the Cayman Team and all the signs from subsequent meets are that Cayman Swimming is on a roll. Be relentless in your pursuit of success.....and BELIEVE!
Cayman swim stars, Lara Butler and Alex McCallum, are to receive scholarship support as they pursue their academic and sporting dreams. The swimmers, who will attend the prestigious Loughborough Univesity in the UK this September as Business School Undergraduates, have impressed on island companies with their academic prowess, commitment, time management and self motivation etc. ...all fine qualities. Lara is to receive the support of KPMG whilst Alex will receive support from Ernst & Young. Great to see businesses getting behind our young sports people and enabling them to fulfil...
The ideal scenario is to mix long/short course training each week but as we don't have this luxury it's essential to get exposure to long course competition There are several world class swimmers who don't have access to regular long course training but they compensate for this by racing long course several times throughout the year. On Island,Cayman swimmers, are undergoing last minute preparations prior to the Island Games in Bermuda. Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Andy Copley (assisted by Technical Director Ian Armiger) the group of Alex Mccallum, Lara Butler, Coral Tomascik and Geoffrey Butler are honing their race skills. Olympians Shaune and Brett Fraser are busy preparing in Miami, Florida and will meet up with the group en route this Friday. Let The Games Begin!!!
The 2018 Youth Olympic Games has been awarded to Beunos Aries, Argentina.
