You remember Olympian Joe Roebuck when he visited Cayman last March? Well, Joe sends a HELLO to all Cayman Swimmers. He raced last weekend and put in some good mid training cycle swims o 53.7 100m fly and 1:58.1 200m fly (long course) Way to go Joe!
The staff for the forthcoming CARIFTA Meet in Jamaica are; Team Mangers: Jeffrey Wight, Sandy Hew Coaches: Katie Lambert, Andy Copley Techincal Director; Ian Armiger The swimmers will be selected on February 24th (following the Pete Ribbins Meet) and the team announced on Tuesday 26th February. We're shaping up nicely!!
The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association has launched a comprehensive Strategic Plan for Swimming. The plan, fully endorsed by the CIASA Board and enthusiastically welcomed by the Cayman Islands Government, covers all aspects of swimming development on island; coach/teacher education, water safety, learn to swim, school swimming and competitive swimming etc. Over the coming weeks and months new intiatives will be introduced to create structures,pathways and incentives which will positively impact on the Cayman Swimming Community. Exciting times are ahead!
Cayman swimmers and coaches who want to "fly a little higher" will be challenged by the introduction of the 2013 Shooting Stars Programme. The programme, part of the recently launched Strategic Plan, is a motivational time based scheme which raises the bar well above the traditionally adotped US Motivational Times. Swimmers aged 10yrs-14yrs will be able to score on the star rated system; fun Xmas prizes being awarded to top swimmers and small cash bonuses to the clubs of those swimmers. The first in the series of CBAC Sea Swims was a resounding success. The event, which took place off Governors Beach, began with a 200m Lollipop Dash for younger swimmers (won by Corey Westerborg) and was followed by a 400m event for more seasoned competitors. A family oriented event, many parents also took part.....including Coral Tomascik and her father (pictured); Coral placed 3rd in the 400m event behind race winner GB Olympian and Treasure Island Coach, Darren Mew. A good day was had by all! .
Christopher Courtis has been on fire this weekend at the Ontario University Athletics Swimming Championships in Toronto. Representing Wilfred-Laurier University he raced to a host of lifetime bests: 200m back 2:07.01, 100m back 58.19, 200m IM 2:09.44 and 50m back 26.71; the latter being a qualifying time for the Canadian Inter Universities Championships (CIS) Great Swimming from Chris.... Wonderful things are happening in Cayman Swimming and beyond.... Keep on the Cayman Fast Swimming Bus!...and Hang On To Your Seats!!!

The Camana Bay Aquatic Club series of Sea Swims starts tomorrow (Sat 9th February) at Governor's Beach.
