The Cayman Swimming Team return home today after a 10 day Campaign and a 14 medal haul at the CARIFTA Championships. At the outset the measures of success would be: PB's, improved ranking position, finals, podium and in these terms the meet has been a great success. Progress is being made... Geoffrey Butler took his CARIFTA medal count to 6 after solid 5km sea swim. Geoffrey, having already medalled in the 200m/400m/1500m Freestyle and 200m/400m Individual Medley, tackled the 5km Open Water event in Discovery Bay with confidence and despite leaving his charge for the line a little late, he was delighted to secure a bronze medal and maintain his 100% medal striking form. Cayman swimmers finished their pool campaign in style by taking 4 medals on the closing session. Geoffrey Butler continued his medal winning ways at the CARIFTA Championships in Jamaica but sneaking a silver medal in the 15/17yrs 200m Individual Medley. Day 3 looked like being a quieter day for the Cayman team with events not quite falling their way. Lara Butler continued her fine form at the Sheffield Premier Meet in the UK by taking down the CIASA Senior 100m backstroke record. Her time of 1:07.26 eclipsed the previous record which was set in 2000. Nice Job Lara. The Cayman Fast Swimming Train just keeps on rolling at CARIFTA. In today's Prelims the PB's came huge and strong; the team once again sitting on over a 90% PB strike rate. Samantha Bailey opened the proceedings with a well earned bronze in the 11/12ys 100m backstroke before Coral Tomascik raced to bronze in the 15/17yrs 100m backstroke. UK based, Lara Butler swam to a new CIASA Long Course Record of 2:26.09 in the 200m IM at the Sheffield Premier Meet.
