The opening day of the CARIFTA Championships in Jamaica saw Cayman swimmers reccord a host of huge PB's, set CIASA Records, make finals and strike GOLD! The morning session of Prelims saw almost every swimmers record substantial lifetime best performances...a huge achievement. In amongst, two swimmers went inside the exisitng CIASA Record for the 13.14yrs 50m backstroke; Catriona Macrae with 33.64 and Lauren Hew with 33.26. The finals sessions gave Cayman Swimmng a fairytale opener with Geoffrey Butler swimming his way to GOLD in the 1500m freestyle in a superb...

Danielle Boothe, representing Jamaica at CARIFTA, raced to GOLD as part of their 15/17yrs 4 x 100m freestyle relay; she also placed 4th in the 50m backstroke, equaling the CIASA record of 32.22 she set in the morning session. Great Job!

Cayman swimmers, Alex McCallum and Lara Butler, will race at the Sheffield Premier Meet this weekend. The meet, one of the UK's most prestigious competitions, will feature a host of fine swimmes and will run over 3 days. Alex, currently on training camp at Loughborough University, will race in 7 events whilst Lara, currently based at Plymouth College but heading to Loughborough in September, will compete in her favourite IM and Butterfly events. Cayman swimmers put the final touches to their CARITA preparations this morning. A loosen in the pool, relay takeovers and team cheers (pictured) were all part of the preparations as the buoyant team look forward to racing. The 18 strong team are rested and ready (some even shaved!) for tomorrow's 9.00 am blast off Get behing your team ... and Enjoy the Show!

CARIFTA swimmers used a little downtime yesterday to take in some sightseeing. Away from their busy schedule in the pool, the swimmers went to Port Royal, a site of historical interest. Some relaxation and culture doesnt go amiss. Two days until Showtime!!

The Men's NCAA Div 1 Final starts today in Indianapolis. The swim extravaganza, held in a 25yd pool, will feature the USA's Top Collegiate Swimmers. and the swimming will be FAST..(especially the starts and turns....if you can't start & turn in a 25yd pool you won't survive) Results should be found here http://results.teamunify.com/nsss/results/NCAA/2013Men/

The Cayman CARIFTA Team 2013 has enjoyed another pre meet session. Swimmers worked with Coaches Ian Armiger, Katie Lambert and Andy Copley in the 50m competition pool to hone their race skills, race pace and stroke counts. ...they also took the opportunity to try out their new suits. Team morale is high and the team is looking forward to racing.

After a successful visit, Paralympian Emma Hollis is heading home to the UK. Emma, a guest of the Dept of Sport for Honouring Women's Month, made an impact on all who met her during a series of talks to swimmers and pupils of local schools. Her visit concluded with a Reception at the Governors Residence. Great Job Emma.. Safe Trip and all the best for the future...
