Lara and Geoffrey Butler took to the magic of waters of Ponds Forge Pool, Sheffield to open their accounts at the ASA National Youth & Senior Championships. Lara, the medals machine from the Island Games in Bermuda, took on the 200m IM and swam to within 1 second of her CIASA Record. 16yr old Ruta Meilutyte, the Olympic Champion and traininng partner of Geoff & Lara Butler (yes, the Cayman Connection!), gave her rivals an early morning wake up call with a 1:04.52 100m breaststroke effort in the prelims at the World Swimmng Championships in Barcelona. The time, a new European & Championship Record, is only 7 one hundredths shy of the World Record... Watch out tonight!!!! The waters of the Sant Jordi Pool could be on fire!!!

Lara and Geoffrey Butler, fresh from their Island Games Medal Bonanza, are set to race at the ASA National Youth & Senior Championships which will be held in the magic waters of Ponds Forge, Sheffield, UK. The meet takes place from 30th July to 4th August and will see Lara and Geoff line up against some of the UK's finest swimmers; it will also give them the opportunity to finish of their already highly successful season in style. Wells Johnstone was "solar powered" when she returned to the USA to compete in the Southeastern Long Course Championships which were held in Nashville, Tennessee. 13yrd old Wells, recently paid her annual vacation visit to Cayman and trained with local swimmers whilst here. Representing her home club, Germantown Centre Swim Team of Tennessee, she swam to a host of lifetime bests at the meet: 200m free 2:14.88, 400m free 4:40.22, 800m free 9:36.15 and 1500m free (her favourite!) 18:05.83 Well Done Wells and We Look Forward To Seeing You Next...

Kate Ledecky obliterated the field with a deadly combination of speed and endurace to lift the World 400m Freestyle Crown in sub 4 minute swim of 3:59.82 in Barcelona. Sun Yang, long, smooth and powerful, gave a masterclass in technique and fitness, to outswim the field in the corresponding men's event with a 3:41.59 effort. Cayman Swimming's Technical Director, Ian Armiger (pictured with Coaches Andy Copley and Katie Lambert), is to return to Loughborough University in a coaching consultancy role at the start of the new academic term. He will support Steve Bayley, the current lead coach, in a purely coaching role until British Swimming and the University finalise their plans on a restructure. Fast Swimming...!

Cayman's Lauren Hew closed out her Canadian Natonal Age Groups with a 31.98 50m butterfly to finish 27th in the 13yrs category. Lauren, winner of the 200m backstroke at the 2013 CARIFTA Championships and bronze medallist in the 50m backstroke at the Canadian National Age Group Championships in a new CIASA Record of 32.19, has handled the travelling and exposure to different training/competition exceedingly well and this bodes well for the future. Thomas Lurz (Germany), the undisputed iron man of Open Water Swimming, won the 25km race at the World Championships in Barcelona. The spectators were treated to exciting nailbiting finishes as in the Men's 25km the medalists were separated by only 1.1 seconds and in the Women's 25km race by a mere 0.7 seconds.
