Thomas Lurz (Germany), the undisputed iron man of Open Water Swimming, won the 25km race at the World Championships in Barcelona. The spectators were treated to exciting nailbiting finishes as in the Men's 25km the medalists were separated by only 1.1 seconds and in the Women's 25km race by a mere 0.7 seconds. Lauren Hew powered her way to a bronze medal in the final of the 13yrs 50m backstroke at the Canadian National Age Group Championhips in Montreal, Canada. Utilising her start, underwater kick and fast twitch speed, Lauren sprinted to 3rd place in 32.27. Well Done Lauren Fast Cayman Swimming.. We Love It!!
Lauren Hew blasted her own 13/14yrs CIASA 50m backstroke record in the prelims of the Canadian Age Group Championships to go through as 2nd fastest for tonight's final. Now familiar with the pool, the meet and the competition, Lauren powered her way down the 50m sprint in 32.19, taking almost 1 second off her own CIASA & National Record. Great Job Lauren! Fast Swimming indeed!!

Lauren Hew started her Canadian National Age Group Championship campaign with a 12th place finish in the 13yrs 200m backstroke. Racing in the spectacular Montreal Pool, Lauren took out the race in a blistering 1:12.89 (the 6th fastest 100m split) to finish in 2:34.09. Lauren is 2nd reserve for the final. Now that she has settled into the running of the meet and the level of competition finals placing in the 50m & 100m backstroke are looking likely.
